The Tracking skill allows players to locate specific creatures, hunt other players, or use it as an alert system for nearby threats.
Mechanics
Tracking success is calculated as:
100% * (Tracking Skill / 100)
On a successful tracking attempt, players can view a list of non-hidden targets within:
20 + (80 * (Tracking Skill / 100)) tiles.
Inside dungeons, this tracking range is halved:
(20 + (80 * (Tracking Skill / 100))) / 2 tiles.
Tracking also detects hidden targets, but only within 10% of the normal tracking distance. Players can cancel the on-screen tracking arrow by right-clicking.
If a player remains stationary for 5 minutes, they incur a 10% cumulative penalty per additional minute to tracking success chances.
Tracking & Detecting Hidden
When combined with the Detecting Hidden skill, players gain an extended range for detecting hidden targets.
The formula for this increased range is:
Hidden Range + (40 * (Detect Hidden Skill / 100))
At 100 Tracking Skill, the base detection ranges are:
- Wilderness: 10 tiles (non-hidden targets: 100 tiles).
- Dungeons: 5 tiles (non-hidden targets: 50 tiles).
Detection range improves with Detect Hidden:
- 100 Tracking / 50 Detect Hidden → Hidden range: 30 tiles (Wilderness) / 15 tiles (Dungeon).
- 100 Tracking / 100 Detect Hidden → Hidden range: 50 tiles (Wilderness) / 25 tiles (Dungeon).
Hunting Mode
Players can activate Hunting Mode from the Tracking window, allowing automatic tracking attempts at various intervals. Tracking arrows will update when a new target is successfully found.
Players can toggle through different hunting targets:
Aggressive Creatures | Passive Creatures | Townsfolk | All Players | All Hostile Players |
Enemy Players | Murderer Players | Criminal Players | Innocent Players | Friendly Players |
Hunt Frequency Options
Hunting mode offers different tracking frequency options:
Selection | Description |
---|---|
Current Combatant | Tracks only your current combat target (last attacked creature or player). |
Always Get Closest | Constantly tracks the nearest target (ideal for skill training). |
Follow Only Individual | Tracks a single manually selected target. |
New When No Arrow | Only initiates tracking when no tracking arrow is active (useful for farming). |
New When No Target | Tracks only when the previous target is lost due to death or distance. |
Buffs & Combat Bonuses
Players receive combat bonuses from Tracking even if they are not actively hunting. A buff icon is displayed when Hunting Mode is active.
PvM Bonuses
Tracking arrow updates every second with the creature's new location.
Weapon Damage Bonus:
Base Weapon Damage * (25% * (Tracking Skill / 100))
Spell Damage Bonus:
25% * (Tracking Skill / 100)
Effective Barding Skill Bonus:
10 * (Tracking Skill / 100)
PvP Bonuses
Tracking arrow points to the last known location of the tracked player (does not update in real time).
Weapon Damage Bonus:
Base Weapon Damage * (10% * (Tracking Skill / 100))
Spell Damage Bonus:
10% * (Tracking Skill / 100)
Hamstring Mechanic
If a player has 80 Tracking, this counts as one of the two required skills for the Hamstring ability.
