The Camping skill allows players to create campfires using kindling, which can be obtained by using a dagger on a tree or crafting through the Carpentry menu with boards and a Carpentry tool (no Carpentry skill required). Campfires last for 10 minutes and provide various benefits.
Camping also increases a player's maximum backpack weight capacity and item count, making it a valuable utility skill. With a World Atlas and 60 Camping skill, players can use the Hike feature to fast-travel to locations in the Atlas by selecting a destination. Hiking places the player in a randomized location within 5 tiles of the entry point, or anywhere within a town's limits for Township destinations.
Traveling via Recall, Gate, Hiking, or Moongate removes any Camping Comfort bonuses granted by another player. However, players always retain their own damage skill bonuses from Camping, even if they haven't recently secured a campfire.
Buffs
Camping provides both storage and combat-related buffs:
- The player's maximum backpack weight capacity increases by
(200 stones * (Camping Skill / 100))
. - The player's maximum backpack item count increases by
(50 * (Camping Skill / 100))
. - Campfires take between 57 and 60 seconds to secure, reduced by (45 seconds * (Camping Skill / 100)) based on the Camping skill of the creator.
- The Camping skill buff is always active and does not display a Buff Icon.
PvM Bonuses
Camping provides damage bonuses against creatures:
- Melee:
Base Weapon Damage * (25% * (Camping Skill / 100))
per weapon hit. - Spells:
(25% * (Camping Skill / 100))
spell damage bonus.
PvP Bonuses
Camping also provides combat bonuses against players:
- Melee:
Base Weapon Damage * (10% * (Camping Skill / 100))
per weapon hit. - Spells:
(10% * (Camping Skill / 100))
spell damage bonus.
Hiking
With at least 60 Camping skill, players can use Hiking to travel to destinations listed in the Atlas, including custom locations. Hiking requires the player to be at a secure campfire and not in combat:
- The player must select the "Hike to Location" button in the Atlas.
- The campfire must be secure.
- The player must not have been in combat within 30 seconds.
- The player must not have engaged in PvP combat within 2 minutes.
When hiking, players remain frozen for 5 seconds before being sent to their destination. Players start with three custom locations and can unlock additional slots:
- Drifter Player Enhancement unlocks two more locations.
- Wayfarer Player Enhancement unlocks four additional locations.
Bedrolls
Players can place a bedroll at their feet by double-clicking it in their backpack. If placed near a secure campfire, the player can use it for instant logout. However, bedrolls cannot be used to log out inside dungeons.
Enhancements
Players can increase the number of custom hiking locations by purchasing upgrades from the Player Customizations menu.
