Summary
An instrument is required to make use of the Musicianship, Provocation, Discordance, and Peacemaking skills. Instruments can be obtained in several ways:
- Purchased from a Bard NPC.
- Crafted with the Carpentry skill.
- Dropped as Magical Loot from creatures.
- See Crafted instrument bonuses and Magical instrument bonuses.

Mechanics
- A player's Effective Barding Skill in Discordance, Peacemaking, and Provocation is capped by their Musicianship skill.
- A player cannot receive more skill bonuses than their Musicianship skill allows (i.e., a player with 25 Musicianship can only gain 25 Effective Barding Skill from instruments, supplemental skills, Lyric Aspect Armor, etc.).
- A player's Effective Barding Skill is calculated as:
(Base Barding Skill + Instrument Skill Bonuses + Instrument Slayer Bonuses + Skill Slayer Bonuses +
Lyric Aspect Armor Bonus + Mastery Chain Link Bonus)
- The Barding Success Chance formula:

- Boss Barding effects reduce a creature’s:

Bard Songs
- Players can use Barding skills to target the ground and activate a Barding Song.
- When activated, the effects will only apply to:
- The player.
- Any green-flagged allies.
- Party members within 50 tiles.
- Players can only benefit from the highest-value song within range.
- A player’s Effective Barding Skill for songs is capped by their Musicianship skill (e.g., 70 Musicianship & 90 Provocation = **70 Effective Provocation**).
- Casting a Barding Song has a 10-second cooldown, separate from other Barding skill uses.

Barding Breaks
- While a non-Boss creature is Provoked or Pacified, every second there is a chance they will suffer a Barding Break based on the formula:
* ((CreatureDifficulty / 100) * 1%)
- The Barding Break duration is:
* (CreatureDifficulty / 10) seconds
Effects of a Barding Break:
- A **"Barding Break"** message appears above the creature.
- The creature’s Provocation and Peacemaking effects immediately end.
- The creature becomes immune to Provocation and Peacemaking for the duration.
- While affected, the creature suffers:
* **-50% Attack Speed**. * **-50% Casting Speed**. * **+50% delay on Abilities** (same as Boss Barding Effects).
- When the Barding Break ends, the creature gains **Aggro Priority** towards the bard for **10 seconds**.
Break Barrier Bonuses:
- Players attacking a creature affected by a Barding Break receive:
* **+20% Damage Bonus** ((20% * (Highest Printed Barding Skill))
).
* **+20% Damage Resistance**.
* Against **Bosses**, these bonuses are reduced to **50%**.
Defensive Barding
- Defensive Barding applies only when a player is flagged in PvP.
- Players will receive Defensive Barding if they do not have Heat of Battle active (i.e., they have not attacked another player recently).
- Defensive Barding provides:
* Wrestling Skill Bonus: *((Discordance Skill + Peacemaking Skill + Provocation Skill) / 2)
* **Max: 100 Skill**. * Magic Resist Skill Bonus: *((Discordance Skill + Peacemaking Skill + Provocation Skill) / 2)
* **Max: 100 Skill**.
- Defensive Barding does NOT:
* Contribute to skill requirements for Codexes, Grimoires, etc.. * Grant any unique PvM bonuses (e.g., Wrestling Mana Refund, Magic Resist Siphon).
- If a player already has higher printed Wrestling or Magic Resist skill, the printed skill value will always take priority.
