Players can now breed Horses, Llamas, Desert Ostards, Forest Ostards, and Frenzied Ostards, with additional creatures potentially available in the future. Breeding allows players to create offspring with special and potentially rare hues. Each breedable creature is randomly assigned a Gender and a Fertility Rating (ranging from 0% to 100%), which can be viewed in the Animal Lore window. Only Bonded (Level 1) creatures are eligible for breeding, and creatures with a Fertility Rating of 0% cannot be used. Players can reduce a breedable mount's fertility to 0% using Sterilization Tablets, which can be crafted with Cooking.
Overview
To breed mounts, players must have a Feeding Trough (craftable via Carpentry) that is locked down inside their house. Double-clicking a locked-down Feeding Trough will open the Mount Breeding menu. Players must add both a Male and Female creature of the same species to the Feeding Trough by clicking the Add button under each gender and targeting the respective creature. Adding a creature stores it inside the Trough, and players may remove a creature at any time by clicking the Remove button (removing a creature in the middle of breeding will abort the process).
Once a Male and Female creature have been added, players can click Start Breeding to begin the process. The offspring will take several days to grow, and growth will only occur if the Feeding Trough remains locked down in a house with sufficient Food and Water. Feeding Troughs now display the Body Value of the offspring along with its Hue.
Offspring Growth
Breeding requires continuous growth over several days. Growth increases hourly as long as the following conditions are met:
- The Feeding Trough remains locked down in a house.
- The Feeding Trough has Food available.
- The Feeding Trough has Water available.
Food
Players must provide food by clicking Add Food and targeting Fruits or Vegetables, which can be purchased from Farmer NPCs in towns and wilderness farm locations. Food amounts decrease over time as the breeding process progresses.
Water
Players must also provide Water by clicking Add Water and targeting any Watering Can, Water Bucket, Water Tub, or Water Barrel from the Plant system. Water amounts decrease over time as breeding progresses.
Offspring Delivery
Once sufficient growth has occurred, players can click Deliver to receive the offspring in the game world. The hue of the offspring is determined by several factors, including the Hue of the Parents, Parent Fertility, and Item Bonuses. After each breeding, both parents lose 5% Fertility. Once a mount reaches 0% Fertility, it can no longer be bred. Offspring are automatically set to Experience Level 1 and are Bonded upon delivery.
Hue Ranges
Each breedable creature type has multiple Hue Ranges that determine possible offspring colors. When a creature spawns in the wild, it is assigned a Hue Range, which consists of:
- A Wild Spawn Hue (basic wilderness hue).
- Several Tiers of Special Hues.
- A Rare Hue.
Breeding Hues
When breeding, there is a 50% chance the offspring will use the Male parent's Hue Range and a 50% chance it will use the Female parent's Hue Range. The offspring will adopt at minimum the current hue of the selected parent unless that parent has a Rare Hue, in which case it will use the highest Special Hue Tier instead.
The offspring may upgrade to a better hue depending on its parent's Hue Tier:
- If the selected parent has a Wild Spawn Hue, there is a chance the offspring will upgrade to the first Special Hue Tier.
- If the selected parent has a Special Hue Tier hue, there is a chance the offspring will upgrade to the next Tier.
- There is a small chance the offspring will adopt the Rare Hue of the selected parent's Hue Range, with odds improving based on the parent's Special Hue Tier.
The chance for an offspring to Upgrade its hue is determined by: 10% × Effective Fertility
The chance for an offspring to receive a Rare Hue is determined by: 0.5% × Effective Fertility × (Parent Hue Tier Level / Total Parent Special Hue Tiers)
If the selected parent is already at the highest Special Hue Tier, the offspring won’t upgrade but will have double the normal Rare Hue chance.
Effective Fertility is calculated as: (Male Fertility Rating + Female Fertility Rating + Breeder Skill Bonuses + Breeding Item Bonuses)
Breeding Skill Bonuses are based on the player who clicks Begin Breeding and include:
- 5% × (Animal Taming Skill / 100)
- 5% × (Animal Lore Skill / 100)
- 5% × (Veterinary Skill / 100)
- 5% × (Herding Skill / 100)

Breeding Items
Players can increase Growth Rate and Effective Fertility using Breeding Items. There are two types: 1. Consumable Items (temporary bonuses). 2. Installation Items (permanent house decorations that provide passive bonuses).
Clicking the Info button in the Breeding Item section will display a description of each item's effect.
Consumable Mount Breeding Items
Consumable items are added to the Feeding Trough via the Add Breeding Item button. These have limited durations, and players can only add one of each type at a time.
