Treasure Maps are valuable items found as loot in various ways. They lead players to hidden treasure chests buried across the world, containing valuable rewards. Treasure maps have 8 levels of difficulty, each increasing in complexity and rewards. There are over 1,600 possible treasure chest locations, making treasure hunting an adventurous challenge. Players can decipher a map and dig up the chest separately, allowing teamwork in the treasure-hunting process.

Deciphering a Treasure Map

Deciphering a Treasure Map requires the Cartography skill and a Spyglass.

Spyglasses have a limited number of uses and provide bonuses based on their quality and resource material. To decipher a map, players must double-click the Spyglass and then target the Treasure Map.

Players can make additional Cartography attempts using the Spyglass to further improve the accuracy of the Treasure Map. However, the player who deciphers a Treasure Map does not have to be the one to dig up the chest.

Treasure Map Levels

1 Plainly Drawn
2 Expertly Drawn
3 Adeptly Drawn
4 Cleverly Drawn
5 Deviously Drawn
6 Ingeniously Drawn
7 Diabolically Drawn
8 Legendarily Drawn

Success Chance

The success chance for deciphering a Treasure Map is affected by both the level modifier of the map and any tool bonuses from the Spyglass.

Level Modifier

Level Level Modifier
1 to 4 0.625
5 0.59375
6 0.525
7 0.47925

Avarite 0.225

Success Chance Calculation

The formula to calculate success chance is:

100% * [0.25 + tool_bonus + (0.025 * cartography_skill) - (tmap_level - 1) * tmap_level_modifier]

Maximum Accuracy

Tool Bonus (Mastercrafted, Exceptional)

Avarite 0.45

Maximum Accuracy Calculation

The formula to calculate maximum accuracy is:

100% * (0.5 + tool_bonus + cartography_skill * 0.0025)

Demonstration

Using a Shovel and Bonuses

Players must use a shovel to dig up a Treasure Chest.

To begin, players must double-click the Shovel, which will automatically attempt to locate any decoded Treasure Maps within their backpack.

The player's Mining skill, along with the quality and material bonus of the Shovel used, determines how close the player must be to the actual location of the chest in order to dig it up.

Once a Treasure Chest has been successfully located, a tracking arrow will appear, pointing towards its location.

Shovel Resource Bonuses

The base search range for Treasure Chests is 2 tiles. This range is further increased based on the player's Mining skill, calculated as:

Search range increased by (100% * (Mining Skill / 100))

Additionally, using higher-quality tools further improves the search range. Tool bonuses stack with skill bonuses.

Discovering a Treasure Chest

When a player successfully digs up a Treasure Chest, a wave of monsters will immediately spawn. These monsters must be defeated before the chest can be accessed.

Additional waves of monsters will continue to spawn over time, depending on the Treasure Map difficulty. These waves will keep appearing until the chest is either "Demolished" by the player who originally dug it up or until it naturally decays.

Any player who is not in the Party of the person who dug up the Treasure Chest will commit a criminal act (turning gray) if they attempt to open the chest or take any items from it.

Treasure Map Chests spawn a single wave of monsters, which appears 3-5 seconds after the chest has been unearthed.

Players must defeat all spawned creatures before they can:

  • Lockpick the chest
  • Snoop inside the chest
  • Demolish the chest

Additionally, a Treasure Map Chest cannot be demolished until it has been unlocked.

Unlocking a Treasure Chest

Treasure Map Chests will no longer spawn as Trapped, though they will still spawn Locked as usual.

The difficulty of Creature Spawns from Treasure Map Chests has been increased and now scales more appropriately to the level of each chest.

Multi-Clienting Prevention

To prevent abuse, a penalty is applied if multiple characters from the same IP address interact with creatures spawned from a single Treasure Map Chest.

If two or more characters from the same IP either use Barding skills or deal damage to creatures from the same Treasure Map Chest within the last 60 seconds, all characters on that IP will have their damage reduced to 1 against those creatures. This penalty lasts until 60 seconds pass without any multi-clienting occurring.

Lockpicking

When a player begins a Lockpicking attempt on a Treasure Map Chest, no other player may attempt to pick the same chest for the next 3 seconds. This restriction ensures that only one player may attempt to unlock the chest at a time.

Additionally, "Effective Lockpicking Skill" Mastery Chain Links have been renamed to "Effective Skill on Chests" to better clarify their purpose.

Treasure Map Chest Experience Sharing

If the player who successfully lockpicks a Treasure Map Chest is in a Party and has "Share Experience" toggled in their party settings, then:

  • Any Mastery Chain Experience and Aspect Experience they earn will be divided evenly among all other party members within 50 tiles.
  • Only players who also have "Share Experience" toggled will benefit from this distribution.

Looting a Treasure Chest

Once the chest is unlocked, players can loot its contents. Higher-level chests contain better loot, including rare artifacts, gold, resources, and magical items. Some special mechanics apply:

  • Players outside the party will turn gray (criminal) if they loot the chest.
  • Chests of levels 1-7 will last 1 hour before disappearing, while level 8 chests last 2 hours.
  • An empty chest will automatically disappear after 1 minute.

Treasure Map Tome

The Treasure Map Tome is an item available for purchase at the Prevalian Merchant or through Achievements. It allows players to store and organize both deciphered and undeciphered treasure maps.
