The Fishing skill allows players to catch a variety of items and resources.

  • Players can use a bladed weapon to cut Raw Fish into Fish Steaks.
  • Fishermen can wield Fishing Weapons, which are player-crafted and rely on the Fishing skill.

Fishing Weapon Special

Fishing Weapons have a unique weapon special ability with the following effects:

  • Damage is increased by 100%.
  • Impales target, inflicting an additional 60% of damage to a random target within 2 tiles.
  • Damage is increased by 30% if no additional targets exist within 2 tiles.

Fishing Weapons

Players can use Ocean Weapons such as Harpoons and Tridents while on land, but with the following adjustments:

  • Against creatures and players, Ocean Weapons will adopt the Swing Speed and Range of Heavy Crossbows.
  • Damage will be similar to Heavy Crossbows, though slightly lower.
  • Ocean Weapons will continue to use their normal Weapon Specials, Codex Stances, Codex Finishers, and Weapon Abilities, unless otherwise indicated.
  • Bonuses, abilities, or effects related to ships or crewmembers will not activate on land.

Land Fishing

  • While fishing on land, players will not receive Captchas.
  • Automated and AFK Land Fishing is allowed.
  • Players will only be able to catch Raw Fish (no special items).
  • Land fishing success rate is substantially lower than ship fishing.

Ship Fishing

  • Captchas still apply while fishing on ships.
  • Players can harvest:
 * Raw Fish
 * Special Cooking Fish (Large Fish, Lobster, Crab)
 * Special Fishing Nets
  • Aquarium Creatures cannot be caught through ship fishing.
  • See Ships for more details.

Fishing Pole Bonuses

When fishing for Special Fish or Special Fishing Nets, players receive a bonus based on the quality and material of the fishing pole.

Fishing Poles can be crafted using Tinkering under the Harvesting Tools category.

Player-Crafted Leather Fishing Nets

  • Players can craft Leather Fishing Nets using any leather type via Tailoring or purchase them from Fisherman NPCs.
  • Leather Fishing Nets have limited uses, which increase based on quality and material type.
  • Used at Fishing Spots and SOS locations to retrieve items.

Special Fishing Nets

  • Players have a chance to find Special Fishing Nets while fishing on a ship.
  • Special Fishing Nets are single-use items.
  • Throwing a Special Fishing Net into the water has a 75% chance to spawn a Fishing Creature and a 25% chance to catch a Special Fish.
  • If a Fishing Creature spawns, one in four will carry a Message in a Bottle.
  • Special Fishing Nets are stackable.

Fishing Creatures

Players have a chance to spawn Fishing Creatures while fishing at Fishing Spots and SOS locations. Fishing Creatures will not spawn during normal fishing.

Messages in a Bottle (SOS)

  • SOS messages do not expire.
  • Double-click a Message in a Bottle to receive an SOS location.
  • Players must be within 12 tiles of an SOS location to attempt retrieval.
  • A maximum of 20 retrieval attempts can be made at each SOS location.
  • Players are guaranteed at least 1 Creature Spawn per SOS, with a maximum of 3.
  • Each spawned creature drops a Salvaged Crate containing loot.

SOS Storage Case

  • Players can craft SOS Cases via Inscription under the Utility Items category.
  • SOS Cases store SOS messages, preventing clutter.
  • Players can add all SOS messages in their backpack to the case via Shift-Click.
  • Locked-down SOS Cases in houses require Co-Owner access to use.

Fishing Resource Map

See the Resource Maps page for more information.

Fishing Frenzy

  • Fishing Frenzies are special fishing locations that spawn randomly.
  • Players can fish at these locations for Freshwater Aquarium Creatures.
  • Fishing Frenzies have limited harvest attempts.
  • Harvest completion time is reduced to 3 seconds.

Aquarium Creatures

  • Aquarium Creatures are categorized by Rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare) and Water Type (Freshwater, Saltwater).
  • Freshwater Aquarium Creatures are found in Fishing Resource Maps and Fishing Frenzies.
  • Saltwater Aquarium Creatures are found in Special Fishing Nets, Fishing Spots, and SOSes.
  • See Aquarium Creatures for details.

World Records

Catching a World Record Fish is rare and difficult.

  • Players receive a notification when they catch a unique fish or world record fish.
  • Double-clicking a fish displays its stats, including the record holder and weight.
  • Fishing Record Boards list all fish types, record weights, and record holders.
  • Boards are located at each city's dock near the Dockmaster.

Fishing Spots

  • Special Fishing Spots can be found while sailing.
  • Players can use Leather Fishing Nets at these spots for a chance to pull up:
 * Aquarium fish
 * Delectable fish
 * Fishing spawns

  • Players can gain Fishing skill up to 100 while using Fishing Weapons (Harpoons, Tridents) in combat.
