Mushroom Spores are a seasonal event item that first began spawning in the month of October. There are 15 different "species" of mushrooms, with a total of 70 unique item variations. Although Mushroom Spores can be grown year-round, they only drop as loot during October. The mushrooms produced from these spores are purely decorative; they cannot be eaten and serve no functional purpose.

Mushroom Spores are not blessed or bound, meaning they can be stolen by other players. Additionally, spores are tied to the year they were obtained. Mushroom Spores from 2022 will only grow into mushrooms from 2022, whereas spores from 2023 can produce mushrooms from both 2022 and 2023. Similarly, spores from 2024 have the potential to grow mushrooms from all three years: 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Finding a Mushroom Spore

The Mushroom Spore event runs from Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 AM ET to Monday, October 31st at 11:59 PM ET. During this time, most gold-producing gameplay systems, including Monsters, Dungeon Chests, Treasure Chests, NPC Ships, and MIBs, have a rare chance to drop Mushroom Spores. These spores are automatically placed into a player's backpack if found.

Slaying monsters in Undermountain provides an increased chance of obtaining Mushroom Spores, making it the ideal location for players seeking to collect them.

Growing a Mushroom Spore

Players can use the Plant Growing system to cultivate Mushroom Spores into decorative mushrooms. Each mushroom species in the Plants System has slightly different growth values based on its theme. Notably, these mushrooms do not emit light and are not considered light sources.

Although Mushroom Spores can be grown throughout the year, they are only available as loot during October. Like the spores themselves, the resulting mushrooms are tied to the year of the spore’s origin. Mushroom Spores from 2022 will only produce mushrooms from 2022, while spores from 2023 can grow mushrooms from both 2022 and 2023. Similarly, spores from 2024 can result in mushrooms from any of the three years.
