This page details the Pit Trials system and Fossil Collections introduced with the Wildlands Expansion (May 19, 2024), accessed via the new Archeology Desk.

Archeology Desk

  • Players can craft Archeology Desks using Carpentry (Utility category).
  • Used to participate in Pit Trials and manage Fossil Collections.
  • Must be Locked Down inside a house to be used.
  • Double-click to open the Archeology Desk Menu.

Pit Trials

Pit Trials are a time-based, competitive arena where 1-5 players battle waves of increasingly difficult monsters.

Survival Gear

  • Required to start a Pit Trial (10 per start).
  • Encountered as somewhat Rare Loot from most systems.
  • Can be stored in Resource Stockpiles.

Pit Trial Types and Difficulty Scaling

  • Choose Trial Type via Left/Right arrows: 1 Player, 3 Player, or 5 Player.
  • Trial Type determines per-wave difficulty scaling:

One Player Pit Trial

  • Creature Damage Dealt: +5% Per Wave
  • Creature Aggro Range: +2 Per Wave
  • Min Creature DifficultyValue: +5 Per Wave
  • Max Creature DifficultyValue: +10 Per Wave
  • Total Creature DifficultyValue: +125 Per Wave

Three Player Pit Trial

  • Creature Damage Dealt: +10% Per Wave
  • Creature Aggro Range: +2 Per Wave
  • Min Creature DifficultyValue: +10 Per Wave
  • Max Creature DifficultyValue: +20 Per Wave
  • Total Creature DifficultyValue: +250 Per Wave

Five Player Pit Trial

  • Creature Damage Dealt: +15% Per Wave
  • Creature Aggro Range: +3 Per Wave
  • Min Creature DifficultyValue: +15 Per Wave
  • Max Creature DifficultyValue: +30 Per Wave
  • Total Creature DifficultyValue: +500 Per Wave

Starting a Pit Trial

  • Click "Start Pit Trial" on the "Pit Trial" page of the Archeology Desk Menu.
  • Requires 10 Survival Gear in backpack (consumed).
  • Cannot start if another trial from the same Desk is in progress.
  • Initiator is automatically added. Additional players (up to Trial Type limit) can join if in the initiator's Party.
  • Cannot enter if already part of another active Pit Trial.

Entering Pit Trials

  • Participants click "Enter Pit Trial".
  • Entry is immediate, but waves start after a 30-second countdown (prep time).

Pit Trial Hotbar

  • Appears automatically on entry. Tracks Wave, Time Remaining, Team Gold Earned, Creatures Remaining.
  • Relaunch with [PitTrialHotbar, [PitTrialsHotbar, or [PitHotbar.

Pit Trial Basics

  • Instanced event in one of 8 random themed Arenas.
  • Duration: 30 minutes.
  • Mountless.
  • No restrictions on Items, Skills, Templates, Followers.
  • All standard PvM bonuses (Codexes, Mastery Chains, etc.) apply.

Waves

  • Creatures spawn in waves. Kill all creatures in a wave to start the next.
  • Difficulty and numbers increase each wave, scaled by Trial Type.
  • Creatures Remaining count (Hotbar) includes minions spawned mid-wave.

Team Gold Earned

  • Creatures drop no corpse loot.
  • Their Raw Gold Value is added to the Team Gold Earned score.
  • Gold-increasing bonuses (Fortune Aspect, etc.) do not apply.
  • Tracked on the Hotbar.

Pit Trial Creature Mechanics

  • Considered Netherzone Region for Slayers, Redline XP, etc.
  • Creatures do not spawn as Paragons.
  • Cannot be Tamed.
  • Stealthed/Hidden enemies reveal if they haven't attacked player/follower within 10 seconds.

Pit Trial Resolution

  • Ends after 30 minutes. Remaining creatures deleted.
  • Public Moongate to Towns appears.
  • 2 minutes for corpse looting, then players ejected to last Moongate destination. Remaining items deleted.

Spoils

  • Upon completion, Spoils (Loot Items) generated based on Team Gold Earned, randomly assigned to team members.
  • Always includes at least one Fossil Part and one Mastery Chain Link.
  • Claim via "Spoils" page of any Archeology Desk.
  • Unclaimed Spoils deleted after 7 Days.

My Stats

  • View stats for Most Recent Run and Best runs (Week/Season/Lifetime) under "My Stats" page.
  • "Best" run determined by Team Gold Earned score.

Rankings

  • Compare personal Best Runs (Week/Season/Lifetime) against server rankings on "Rankings" page.
  • Rankings based on Team Gold Earned (expect ties among teammates).
  • Click Detail Orb button for full summary of a player's Best Run.

Fossil Collections

Players can collect Fossil Parts from Pit Trial Spoils and assemble them into decorative Fossil Collection addons using the Archeology Desk.

Fossil Parts

  • Found as Spoils from Pit Trials.
  • Added to Archeology Desk for storage and assembly.

Fossil Page

  • Manage Fossil Parts and assemble Collections on the "Fossils" page.
  • 10 different Fossil Collections available (navigate via Left/Right buttons).
  • Each collection requires a specific set of Fossil Parts.

Add Fossils

  • Click "Add Fossils" to store all Fossil Parts from backpack into the Desk.
  • "X Stored" indicates quantity held.
  • Click Small Orb next to a part to retrieve it to backpack.

Assembling Fossil Collections

  • If at least 1 of every required Fossil Part is stored, "Assemble Collection" button appears green.
  • Clicking consumes 1 of each required part and creates the Fossil Collection Addon Deed in backpack.
  • Place the addon deed in a house.

Achievements [To Be Coded]

  • Achievements for Pit Trial participation and Fossil Collection assembly are planned.
