Players can craft Smoke Bombs using the Tinkering skill. To use a Smoke Bomb, a player must have at least 80 Hiding and 80 Stealth skill. When a player double-clicks a Smoke Bomb, they will make a normal Hiding skill check, which is treated as if they had pressed the Hiding skill button. If the check is successful, they will become Hidden and then immediately make an additional free Stealth skill check to enter Stealth.
Players cannot use a Smoke Bomb immediately after Stealing from another player. They must wait the normal 10-second skill cooldown after stealing before they may use a Smoke Bomb. Additionally, players can type [SmokeBomb to search their backpack for a Smoke Bomb and automatically double-click it.
Usage Requirements
To use a Smoke Bomb, players must meet the following conditions:
- Have at least 80 Hiding Skill and 80 Stealth Skill.
- Be in an area where the Hiding skill can normally be used.
- Not be waiting for any skill cooldowns (i.e. they must be able to make a normal Hiding skill attempt).
- Not be Flagged in PvP.
- Not be inside a house.
- Must not have used an Adventurer's Rope or cast the Teleport spell in the last 5 seconds.
- Must wait 10 seconds after using the Detect Hidden skill before using a Smoke Bomb.
Nearby Creatures
Normally, players will fail a Hiding attempt if there is a hostile player or creature within 12 tiles and within line of sight (LOS). However, when using a Smoke Bomb, all non-tamed/non-summoned creatures will be ignored for the 12-tile LOS check. This means that a player can successfully Hide even when standing right next to an aggressive creature.
Success
If the player successfully makes the Hiding skill check and then passes the Stealth skill check, the Smoke Bomb is consumed, and they can immediately make stealth movements. There is a 2-minute cooldown between successful uses of Smoke Bombs.
In PvM, this cooldown can be reduced by upgrading the Without a Trace ability in the Thieves Codex.
