Pit Trials are a time-based, competitive Monster Arena where 1-5 players battle against waves of increasingly difficult monsters. To start a Pit Trial, players must have access to an Archeology Desk and accumulate sufficient Survival Gear. These trials offer unique challenges, rewards, and progression opportunities, including the chance to earn Spoils and construct Fossil Collections.

Survival Gear
Survival Gear is an essential resource for entering Pit Trials. Players will encounter Survival Gear as a somewhat rare loot drop from most loot-generating systems. To start a Pit Trial, players must have 10 Survival Gear, which can be stored within a Resource Stockpile for convenience.
Pit Trial Types and Difficulty Scaling
Players can choose from three different Pit Trial types, which determine the number of participants and adjust the difficulty of enemy waves accordingly. The three options are 1 Player, 3 Player, and 5 Player.
Using the Left/Right Arrow buttons in the Pit Trial menu, players can toggle between the different trial types. The selection affects various mechanics such as creature damage dealt, creature aggression range, and total creature difficulty value. Larger group sizes introduce more challenging mechanics but also provide the opportunity for greater rewards.

Starting a Pit Trial
Players can initiate a Pit Trial from the "Pit Trial" page of the Archeology Desk Menu by clicking the "Start Pit Trial" button. The initiating player must have 10 Survival Gear in their backpack to begin. A Pit Trial cannot be started if another trial is already in progress from the same Archeology Desk.
Once a Pit Trial begins, the initiating player is automatically added as a participant. Additional players can join, but they must be in a party with the initiating player. Each participant must then enter the trial manually, and no player can be part of multiple Pit Trials at the same time.
Entering Pit Trials
Once a trial has started, participants can enter by clicking the "Enter Pit Trial" button in the Archeology Desk menu. While players can enter immediately, enemy waves will not begin spawning for 30 seconds, allowing time to prepare before combat begins.
Pit Trial Hotbar
Upon entering a Pit Trial, players will automatically receive a Pit Trial Hotbar that tracks key information such as:
- Current Wave
- Time Remaining
- Team Gold Earned
- Creatures Remaining in the current wave
Players can relaunch the Pit Trial Hotbar by typing `[PitTrialHotbar]`, `[PitTrialsHotbar]`, or `[PitHotbar]`.
Countdown
A 30-second countdown begins as soon as a Pit Trial is initiated. Players will see system messages displaying the time remaining before enemy creatures start spawning.
Pit Trial Basics
Pit Trials are instanced and take place in one of eight random arenas, each featuring a unique visual theme. The trials last for a total of 30 minutes and are completely mountless. There are no restrictions on items, skills, templates, or followers, allowing for full use of character abilities.
Most PvM-based bonuses, including Codexes and Mastery Chains, will function normally, with two exceptions: Guild Favors and the King's Faire Shady Fortune Teller Damage Bonus do not apply.
Waves
Pit Trials consist of consecutive waves of creatures. Players must eliminate all creatures in a wave before the next one begins. As the trial progresses, waves will increase in difficulty and scale based on the selected Pit Trial type.
Players can track the number of remaining creatures in a wave using the Pit Trial Hotbar. This number may increase mid-wave if enemies spawn additional minions, which must also be defeated before advancing.
Team Gold Earned
Unlike standard PvM encounters, slain creatures in Pit Trials do not drop loot directly. Instead, their raw gold value is added to the team’s Team Gold Earned score, which can be viewed in the Pit Trial Hotbar. Bonuses from Fortune Aspect, Mastery Chains, or other gold-increasing effects do not apply in Pit Trials. Additionally, the gold value and Loot obtained from creatures are reduced by 50% compared to regular PvM encounters.
Pit Trial Creature Mechanics
Pit Trials are considered a Netherzone region rather than a Wilderness area, meaning Slayer Bonuses, Redline Experience, and related mechanics apply accordingly.
Additional rules include:
- Pit Trial creatures do not spawn as Paragons.
- Creatures in Pit Trials cannot be tamed.
- Stealthed or hidden enemies will reveal themselves if they do not attack a player or follower within 10 seconds.
Pit Trial Resolution
When the 30-minute time limit expires, the trial ends immediately. All remaining enemies are deleted, and a Public Moongate appears at the center of the arena, allowing players to return to town. Players have 2 minutes to retrieve any items from their own or their followers' corpses before they are ejected from the arena. Any remaining items left in the Pit Trial arena will be permanently deleted.
Spoils
At the end of a Pit Trial, the team is rewarded with a collection of Spoils based on their Total Gold Earned score. The Spoils are automatically assigned to different team members and will always include at least one Fossil Part and one Mastery Chain Link.
Players can claim their Spoils from the "Spoils" page at any Archeology Desk, regardless of which desk was used to initiate the trial. Spoils must be claimed within 7 days, or they will be permanently deleted.
Stats
Players can track their Pit Trial performance under the "My Stats" page in the Archeology Desk Menu. Statistics include:
- Most Recent Run
- Best Run of the Week
- Best Run of the Season
- Best Run of All Time
A player’s Best Run is determined by Team Gold Earned rather than individual contributions.
Pit Trials Server Ranking
The "Rankings" page allows players to compare their best runs against others on the server. Leaderboards track Best Runs of the Week, Season, and Lifetime based on the Team Gold Earned score.
Since Pit Trials are team-based, players from the same run will often share identical rankings, as their score is determined collectively rather than individually.
