The Animal Lore skill is essential for players who want to control and manage tamed animals and creatures in the Outlands. It functions both actively and passively:
- Active Use: Allows players to access detailed information about a targeted creature.
- Passive Benefits: Enhances healing effectiveness when using the Veterinary skill, influences the difficulty of creatures a player can control, and contributes to the Follower PvP Damage Cap calculation.
Additionally, to issue commands to a tamed creature, a player must have Animal Lore and Animal Taming at or above the creature’s minimum taming requirement.
Tamed Stats and Skills
- Tamed Creatures will automatically receive scalar bonuses to Stats and Skills applied at each level
- Followers only use one form of combat, Melee or Spells, each follower's combat type is listed as either "Melee Damage" or "Spell Damage" in their Animal Lore page to indicate this
Stat | Increment Per Level | Up to a Maximum of |
---|---|---|
Hits | +10% | +100% |
Attack Speed | +2.5% | +25% |
Wrestling | +5.0% | +50% |
Armor | +2.5 | +25 |
Magic Resist | +5.0 | +50 |
Poisoning | +2.5% | +25% |
Creature Details and Abilities
- Players with Animal Lore can access detailed information about tamed creatures.
- The Details page shows the creature’s Class in the upper right corner.
- Creatures fall into three main classes: Attack, Utility, or Tank. (See Taming Bestiary).
- The Abilities menu displays the type of each ability the creature has:
- Passive, Cooldown, or Innate.
Discovering Slayer Type and Difficulty
- All players, even with 0 Animal Lore, can use the skill on a creature to reveal:
- Slayer Group – Shows which slayer weapons are effective against it.
- Difficulty Value – Determines loot quality and barding difficulty.
Miscellaneous Features
- Players can view the Tamed Creature PvP Damage Scalar in the Animal Lore gump at the top of the Abilities Page.
- Note: This scalar is separate from the Follower PvP Damage Cap mechanic, which limits cumulative damage over time.
- The Animal Lore gump will display a player's correct Passive Animal Taming Remaining amount, unless they are at 120 Animal Taming, in which case Passive Taming will not be shown.
- The Animal Lore gump for Pack Horses and Pack Llamas does not display experience or level, as they cannot be leveled.
- View the Mounts page to see how Animal Lore affects them.
- Players can use Animal Lore on creatures up to 12 tiles away.
- Players make an Animal Lore skill gain check each time they "speak" to an animal while taming it (providing additional skill gain opportunities).
- Various tamed pet combat tactics, such as melee/ranged mode and aggro/reduced-aggro mode, can be toggled on/off via the Animal Lore gump.
