Ships are a cornerstone of gameplay in UO Outlands, enabling high-seas adventure, trade, and access to exclusive content. This page serves as the central hub for understanding these versatile vessels.

Overview

Doubloons, the currency of the high seas, looted from fallen crew.

Navigating the oceans of Outlands requires a ship, granting access to Lawless Zones where PvP combat occurs without guard intervention. Ships are indispensable for deep-sea Fishing, hunting formidable Ocean Mini-Bosses and Ocean Bosses, pursuing Treasure Maps found in MIBs, and transporting vast quantities of resources thanks to their holds boasting unlimited weight capacity, much like a Bank Box. The naval experience is further enriched by systems for recruiting NPC Crewmembers and installing powerful Ship Upgrades.

Understanding ship mechanics is crucial. Players aboard a vessel become flagged for PvP if their NPC Crewmembers engage an enemy player. Damage between players, pets, or summons on different ships is halved, encouraging tactical positioning. While friends and guildmates can join you to fish, they generally cannot operate core ship functions unless designated as co-owners. Captains must also manage their Control Slots; exceeding limits or lacking necessary Taming skills for followers can prevent ship movement commands beyond "Stop". Lastly, note that while NPC Crew generate significant threat (Aggro), tamed and summoned creatures do not receive the same Aggro bonus at sea as they do on land.
