Ships play a vital role in naval combat, trade, exploration, and accessing unique content in UO Outlands. This page serves as the central hub for ship-related information.
Overview
Ships allow players to traverse the seas, entering Lawless Zones where PvP is unrestricted. They are essential for activities like Fishing, hunting Ocean Mini-Bosses and Ocean Bosses, Treasure Map hunting (via MIBs), and transporting large amounts of goods thanks to their unlimited weight capacity holds (similar to Bank Boxes). Ships are also deeply integrated with the NPC Crewmember and Ship Upgrade systems.
Key Concepts
- Lawless Zone: Ocean areas are lawless, meaning players can freely attack others or commit criminal actions without penalty from guard zones.
- PvP Flagging: Players on board a ship will be flagged for PvP if their NPC Crewmembers attack another player, even if the captain hasn't directly attacked. All damage from players, tamed creatures, and summons towards enemies on different ships is reduced by 50%.
- Passenger Restrictions: Friends and Guildmates can board ships (if permitted by the owner) for activities like fishing, but typically cannot interact with core ship systems like steering, cannons, or repairs unless designated as a Co-Owner.
- Follower Limits: Captains exceeding their Control Slots or lacking the required Taming skills for their current followers may find themselves unable to issue ship movement commands other than "Stop".
- Creature Aggro: Tamed and Summoned creatures on ships do not generate the high bonus Aggro they do on land, though NPC Crewmembers still generate significant Aggro.
Key Topics

Doubloons

Doubloons are the primary currency for naval activities.
- Earning: Obtained from sinking enemy ships, looting enemy crew, Fishing, Frenzies, Nets, Ocean Mini-Bosses, Ocean Bosses, and other ocean events.
- Spending: Used for registering ships, hiring crewmembers, and potentially other naval services.
- Storage: Can be stored in the bank and converted into checks via a Banker (say "balance", enter amount).
