This page covers obtaining, placing, and controlling ships in UO Outlands, including details on ship types, speeds, and the user interfaces (Gump and Hotbars). Return to the main Ships page.

Ship Types

Ships are crafted using the Carpentry skill. Each type requires different materials and skill levels, and features randomized base stats upon crafting. Higher Carpentry skill improves the chance of better stats.

Crafting and Stat Randomization

  • Ships are crafted via Carpentry.
  • Base stats (HP, Speed, Cannons, etc.) vary between -10% to +10% of the default value upon crafting.
  • Carpentry skill above 100 reduces the chance of negative rolls.
  • At 120 Carpentry, stats only vary between 0% to +10%.

Speed Caps

Ship Stats Gump showing speed exceeding the cap (Red text with *).
  • Maximum Forward Speed Cap: 6.5 Tiles/sec
  • Maximum Strafe/Reverse Speed Cap: 3.25 Tiles/sec
  • Activated abilities (e.g., Beat to Quarters) can temporarily exceed these caps. The bonus is applied to the ship's current speed cap (e.g., 6.5 t/s + 15% boost = 7.475 t/s).
  • When exceeding a cap, the speed value in the "Stats" Gump page appears in Red text with an asterisk (*).

Ship Deeds

A crafted ship exists as a Ship Deed (miniature ship item).

Registering a Ship

A placed, unnamed Small Ship.
  • Before launching, a deed must be registered. Double-click the deed to open the Ship Gump.
  • Click "Register Ship" on the Overview page.
  • The required Doubloon fee (see table above) is automatically withdrawn from your bank. Small Ships have no registration fee.
  • Once registered, anyone holding the deed can launch it.

Inspecting Deeds

  • Double-click a Ship Deed (in backpack or on a vendor) to open the Ship Gump.
  • Review installed upgrades, crew status, and ship statistics before purchasing or launching.

Placement Rules and Restrictions

  • A registered deed can be launched by double-clicking it near water.
  • Launch Delay: Cannot launch if any ship on your Account/IP was sunk within the last 5 minutes (or 10 minutes if a Contested Ocean Boss is active).
  • Travel Restrictions: Cannot launch from a deed if you used Recall, Gate, or Hike within the last 3 minutes. Ship Deeds in your backpack become Blessed if you used these travel methods within the last 30 seconds (preventing theft/loss on death temporarily).

Ship Controls

Ships are primarily controlled via the Ship Gump (accessed via the deed or Tillerman) and Ship Hotbars.
