Summary
The Mastery Chain system is an end game PvM system providing players many options to further progress their characters

The Mastery Chain system is an account-based, long-term Player versus Monster (PvM) progression system allowing players to customize their characters with various passive bonuses.
Overview
Mastery Chains are wearable items that occupy the Talisman slot. While the experience earned towards unlocking slots is shared across all characters on an account, each character must possess and equip their own Mastery Chain to benefit from installed bonuses.

Mastery Chains are Blessed, wearable items that occupy the Talisman slot on a character, and must be equipped once in order to bless/bind them to your character.
*  Binding: A Mastery Chain must be equipped at least once to become Blessed and permanently bound to the specific character who equipped it. Single-clicking a bound chain shows the owner's name.
*  Usage: Once bound, the chain provides its bonuses even when stored in the character's backpack.
*  PvP Restriction: Mastery Chain bonuses are inactive during PvP combat or for 30 seconds after engaging another player.
*  Switching Cooldown: Equipping a different bound Mastery Chain incurs a 30-second cooldown before its bonuses become active. The remaining cooldown duration is visible when single-clicking the chain. Bonus values are visible in the menu even during the cooldown.

Players can craft Mastery Chains with 120 Tinkering, and can add links to their chain providing PvM bonuses once they've gained the required XP to unlock a link slot.
Acquiring and Crafting
Mastery Chains can be crafted by players with 120.0 Tinkering skill.
*  Mastery Chain Links (which provide the actual bonuses) are acquired as rare loot or rewards from various end-game activities (see below).

A Mastery Chain is not required to start accumulating XP, but is necessary to be able to see the XP accumulated.
Appearance
The visual style of a Mastery Chain is purely cosmetic and does not affect its function.

Players can view their mastery chain's gump by using the "[MasteryChain" command, double-clicking their mastery chain or through the "Mastery Chain" option in their character's context menu.
Craftable Styles
Eleven styles can be crafted:

Mastery Chain XP is shared to accross all characters on a player's account, each character must have their own mastery chain to receive any benefits
{| class="wikitable" style="text-align: center;background:black;"

Similarly to Aspect Gear, Mastery Chains does not provide any bonuses to players who are currently in PvP or have been in combat with another player within the last 30 seconds

Similarly to Aspects, players can only change their Mastery Chain at most once every 30 seconds (players will not be prevented from equipping their Mastery Chain; however, bonuses for a newly equipped Mastery Chain will not kick in for 30 seconds)

Chain Appearance
The visual style does not affect its mechanics, simply how it looks. The eleven craftable visual styles of Mastery Chain are:

Mastery Chain Dyes
Mastery Chains can be dyed using Mastery Chain Dyes, obtainable as loot (including Rare, Dungeon, and Thief hues) or potentially through other systems. These dyes can be stored in a Dyes Tome.

Using Mastery Chains
Activating Mastery Chains
Mastery Chains must be permanently bound to that player in order for them to receive bonuses from it
Players can activate a Mastery Chain either by equipping it to their Paperdoll or by Shift-clicking the chain in their backpack and selecting the "Activate this item" context menu entry. This makes the selected chain the active one for applying bonuses.

Players can have multiple Mastery Chains bound to themselves.
Mastery Chain Menu
Access the menu to manage links and view experience:
*  Type the <code>[MasteryChain</code> command.
*  Double-click a bound Mastery Chain (equipped or in backpack).
*  Right-click your character -> Context Menu -> "Mastery Chain".

Players may choose to simply keep their Mastery Chain in their backpack, rather than wear it (since it takes up a Talisman slot on their character), however they must equip it at least once in order to set that Mastery Chain as their "active" chain to receive it's bonuses
Experience and Unlocking Slots
Mastery Chains have 30 Link Slots that must be unlocked sequentially by earning Mastery Chain Experience.

Single-clicking a bound mastery chain will display the character who it's bound to
Earning Experience
Mastery Chain XP is earned account-wide through activities that generate gold value, including:
*  Killing creatures.
*  Lockpicking dungeon chests and Treasure Map Chests.
*  Looting NPC Ship Holds and MIB Salvage Crates.
*  Completing Trade Caravans.

Players can single-click their Mastery Chains to see how long until their bonuses will activate after they switch their current Mastery Chain
Experience Calculation
Base XP earned is typically: <code>(Gold Value of Source * Player Damage Dealt %)</code>

Players can freely equip Mastery Chains as often as they like (won't be prevented from equipping them), however bonuses for a newly equipped Mastery Chain will not kick in for 30 seconds
Multi-Player Experience Adjustment
When multiple players contribute significantly to killing a creature, the experience gain is adjusted upwards for all contributors:
*  For each player dealing 5% or more damage, the "Effective Damage Dealt %" for calculating XP is scaled up by +25% per valid player.
*  This Effective Damage % is capped at 15% for Bosses and 66% for normal creatures.
*  This adjustment only affects XP gain, not <code>[BossResults</code> or <code>[ServerRank</code> stats.

Players can only remove Mastery Chain Links from a Mastery Chain Link that they are the owner of (Mastery chain's are bound to their owners)
Example: 4 players kill a 1000 gold creature.
*  Player A: 20% dmg | Player B: 30% dmg | Player C: 49% dmg | Player D: 1% dmg
*  3 players (A, B, C) dealt >= 5% damage. Adjustment = +75% (3 * 25%).
*  Effective % for XP:
**  A: 20% * 1.75 = 35% -> 350 XP
**  B: 30% * 1.75 = 52.5% -> 525 XP
**  C: 49% * 1.75 = 85.75%, capped at 66% -> 660 XP
**  D: 1% * 1.75 = 1.75% -> 17.5 XP

Unlocking Slots
*   As XP thresholds are met, Link Slots unlock automatically.
The Mastery Chain menu features an "Install All Links in Backpack" button that players can click to search their backpack and simultaneously install all valid Mastery Chain Links found
*   Unlocked slots appear green in the Mastery Chain menu.

Installing links in this manner follows the same rules for normal link installation (max cap on Duplicate effects, restrictions on Corrupted Links, Arcane Essence install costs per link, etc)

Players will receive a notification of how many links were found and successfully installed

Players will receive a notification if they were unable to install any links due to lack of Arcane Essence available

Players will not receive specific notifications if restrictions are hit for Duplicate Effects: they will simply be told how many valid links were installed (meaning any uninstalled links found had some form of restriction)

Gaining Experience
Experience Formula
When killing a creature, each player typically earns Experience towards various systems by calculating their Damage Dealt % to the Creature and multiplying it by the Gold Value of the creature

So a player who deals 33% of the total damage on a creature worth 1000 gold, would earn 333 Experience towards systems like Mastery Chains, Weapon Codexes, Wizard's Grimoires, etc

Experience Adjustments
Players will now receive an Experience Adjustment when killing creatures when multiple players damage the creature

For each valid player that inflicts 5% Damage or more to the creature, all players will have their "Effective" Damage Dealt % scaled upwards by (+25% * Valid Players) for the purposes of calculating Experience Gains

Players cannot have their Effective Damage Dealt % increased from this mechanic above 15% for Bosses or above 66% for Normal Creatures

Any Experience Adjustments players receive will not affect the numbers shown for [BossResults or [ServerRank calculations: these adjustments are only considered for Experience Gains for systems

Example: 4 players kill a creature worth 1000 gold

* Player A dealt 20% damage to the creature
* Player B dealt 30% damage to the creature
* Player C dealt 49% damage to the creature
* Player D dealt 1% damage to the creature

Since three players dealt at least 5% damage or more to the creature, all players will have their "Effective" damage dealt scaled up by (25% * 3) = +75%

* Player A will now be treated as (20% * 1.75) = 35% Damage Dealt
* Player B will now be treated as (30% * 1.75) = 52.5% Damage Dealt
* Player C will now be treated as (49% * 1.75) = 66% Damage Dealt (would be 85.75% but 66% is the max cap for bonuses)
* Player D will now be treated as (1% * 1.75) = 1.75% Damage Dealt

Player B would normally have earned (30% * 1000) = 300 Experience, but instead now earns (52.5% * 1000) = 525 Experience because of adjustments.
Upgrading Mastery Chains
Mastery Chains by themselves will provide no benefit to the player until they add Mastery Chain Links to the chain

Players are allowed to add up to 30 Mastery Chain Links to a Mastery Chain, however they must first Unlock Links in them by earning XP

Players earn XP by performing actions that earn gold (killing monsters / unlocking dungeon chests / etc)

When players earn enough XP to Unlock a new Link, they will receive a notification that their Mastery Chain has Unlocked a new link

If players have any available Unlocked links in their Mastery Chain, they will see one or more Green colored links in the chain graphic

Installing a new Link requires consuming 10 Arcane Essence

Mastery Chain Link Types
Mastery Chain Links are very rare loot items that are only available through a few specific game mechanics (e.g. Omni Bosses, Treasure Hunting), or alternatively, purchasable by using a very large number of reward points from certain systems (e.g. Societies)

Mastery Chain Links come in 4 different material types: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Corrupted

Each Link has a specific effect or bonus it adds to a player when installed into a Mastery Chain, with that effect/bonus amount increasing based on the material type
* Silver Links are even more rare than Bronze, and typically will have 25% higher bonus amounts than Bronze Links
* Gold Links are ultra rare and typically have 50% higher bonus amounts than Bronze Links

Mastery Chain Link Bonus Values
Current values for potential Mastery Chain Links are listed below:
* Note that "Effective" skill gain bonus for Mastery Chain Links only boosts the bonuses you get from those skills in combat
* It does not increase your skill value for crafting
* Elective Upgrades means that you can convert the link on the left, to the one in the Elective Upgrades column by double clicking on the link. This cannot be reversed without using a reforging tool.

Other Restrictions
Damage to Poisoned Creatures links will only apply if the target is affected with Greater Poison or above

Installing Mastery Chain Links
If a player has an available unlocked link in their Mastery Chain (displayed in Green at the top chain graphic) players can click the Install Link button in the Mastery Chain gump window to target and add a Chain Link in their backpack to their Mastery Chain

Players are allowed to install up to 10 Chain Links of the same bonus effect into a single Mastery Chain, and the cumulative total bonus for each effect is displayed in the Mastery Chain window

(The only exception to this rule is "Special / Rare Drop Chances" which players are allowed to have 20 links)

Players can remove Links by clicking the Remove Links button in the bottom right corner of the window

Removing Mastery Chain Links
When Removing Links from a mastery chain, players can click the Left/Right arrows to navigate through their currently installed links, with the selected link denoted with a Green pointer and the individual Link bonus displayed in the bottom panel

Clicking the Remove Link red button will remove the highlighted link from the chain and place it back in the player's backpack
Mastery Chain Links
These are the items installed into unlocked slots to provide bonuses.

Players will not receive the 10 Arcane Essence back when removing links, but they will be able to place a new link back into the chain in place of the removed one
Acquiring Mastery Chain Links
Links are rare rewards obtained from:
*  Completing Lore Books.
*  Completing Tomes of Heroism.
*  Slaying Omni Bosses (guaranteed at least 1 Gold link).
*  Purchasing with reward points from:
**  Arena & Duels
**  Factions
**  Achievements
**  Societies
**  Strangelands

When a player is done removing links, they can click the Done button in the lower right corner to return to the main page
Link Tiers
Links come in four tiers, offering progressively stronger bonuses:
*  Bronze (Base)
*  Silver (+25% stronger than Bronze)
*  Gold (+50% stronger than Bronze)

*  Cost: 10 Arcane Essence per link installed.
*  Limit: Up to 10 links of the same bonus effect type can be installed (e.g., 10x Melee Damage Bonus).
**  Exception: Special Drop Chance links allow up to 20 installed.
*  Corrupted Link Restriction: Only one Corrupted Link can be installed per Mastery Chain.

Players can now click the Remove All button to remove all Links currently installed (requires triple confirmation)
Removing Links
*  Click the "Remove" button next to an installed link in the menu.
*  The Link item is returned to your backpack.
*  The 10 Arcane Essence installation cost is not refunded.
*  Only the character the chain is bound to can remove links.

Link Bonuses
Mastery Chain Links offer a wide variety of PvM bonuses. "Effective" skill bonuses boost the combat effects derived from skills, not the skill value for crafting checks.MasteryChainLinks <!-- Embed the template that lists all links and their values -->

Specific Link Notes
*  Damage to Diseased/Bleeding Creatures: New link types added Dec 10, 2024. Diseased links mirror Poisoned links in value.
*  Damage to Poisoned Creatures: Only applies if the target has Greater Poison or higher.
*  Effective Arms Lore Skill: Bonus fixed July 12, 2024.

*  Follower Links: Several types exist (Damage Resistance, Attack Speed). Older DR/Healing links could be converted to Attack Speed links via double-click option.

Mastery Chain Link Reforging Tools
Reforging Links
There are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Corrupted Reforging Tools available, and players must use a Reforging Tool of the same material type as the Mastery Chain Link they wish to alter (i.e. Bronze Reforging Tool on a Bronze Mastery Chain Link)
Players can change the bonus type of an existing link using Reforging Tools.
*  Tool material (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Corrupted) must match the Link's material.
*  Double-click the Reforging Tool, then target the Link (in backpack or installed in chain).
*  Select a new bonus type from the provided list.
Reforging Tools are purchasable with reward points or gold from the Prevalia Market.

Players can double-click the Reforging Tool in their backpack, and then target the specific Mastery Chain Link they wish to alter

Mastery Chain Replacement
This NPC is no longer available

We have created a new Mastery Chain Technician NPC that will allows players to perform a one-time replacement on certain Mastery Chain Links. Access to the Mastery Chain Technician will be available for a limited duration (likely several weeks), and will typically be made after we have implemented major gameplay changes that impact the value of individual Mastery Chain Links (this gives players an opportunity to switch to different links if they no longer want them after the mechanics change). Players can find Mastery Chain Technicians, when they are available, at the Prevalia Exchange Office and Corpse Creek Bank areas

We are initially introducing this NPC with the ability to replace ONLY the following links:
* Melee Weapon Aspect Chance
* Melee Weapon Aspect Effect
* Spell Aspect Chance
* Spell Aspect Effect

* To begin replacement of Mastery Chain Links, say "Mastery" or "Chain" out loud near any Mastery Chain Technician in Prevalia or Corpse Creek
* Players must then target a Mastery Chain that is bound to them in their backpack or currently equipped
* If a player targets a Mastery Chain that has any of those valid Links installed, they will be shown a replacement window
* At the top of the menu, players will be able to select which link they wish to replace, and can use the Left/Right arrows to rotate between valid links installed
* At the bottom of the menu players can use the Left/Right arrows to select the new Link type they want to convert the existing link into (this will maintain the same Bronze/Silver/Gold material type)

* Once a player is confident in their selection, they can click the "Replace Selected Link With New Link" button three times in a row to replace that individual link (players must do this multiple times if they have multiple links of the same type)
* This replacement is PERMANENT, and once a player has replaced a link with a new type, they will NOT be able to immediately revert it using this system
* If a player no longer has any replaceable type links in their Mastery Chain, the replacement menu will automatically close
* Note: If players have their Mastery Chain window open, they will need to double-click it to refresh any changes made to it via the Replacement system menu

An Exquisite Mastery Chain equipped on the paperdoll.

  • Binding: A Mastery Chain must be equipped at least once to become Blessed and permanently bound to the specific character who equipped it. Single-clicking a bound chain shows the owner's name.
  • Usage: Once bound, the chain provides its bonuses even when stored in the character's backpack.
  • PvP Restriction: Mastery Chain bonuses are inactive during PvP combat or for 30 seconds after engaging another player.
  • Switching Cooldown: Equipping a different bound Mastery Chain incurs a 30-second cooldown before its bonuses become active. The remaining cooldown duration is visible when single-clicking the chain. Bonus values are visible in the menu even during the cooldown.

Acquiring and Crafting

  • Mastery Chains can be crafted by players with 120.0 Tinkering skill.
  • Mastery Chain Links (which provide the actual bonuses) are acquired as rare loot or rewards from various end-game activities (see below).

Appearance

The visual style of a Mastery Chain is purely cosmetic and does not affect its function.

Craftable Styles

Eleven styles can be crafted:

Exquisite

Fashionable

Gilded

Twin Loop

Briolette

Cabochon

Chandelier

Graduated Bead

Horn Pendant

Layered

Twisted Cable

Restyle Deeds

Limited-time Restyle Deeds can unlock unique appearances:

Tooth Necklace

Mastery Chain Dyes

Mastery Chains can be dyed using Mastery Chain Dyes, obtainable as loot (including Rare, Dungeon, and Thief hues) or potentially through other systems. These dyes can be stored in a Dyes Tome.

Activating Mastery Chains

Players can activate a Mastery Chain either by equipping it to their Paperdoll or by Shift-clicking the chain in their backpack and selecting the "Activate this item" context menu entry. This makes the selected chain the active one for applying bonuses.

Mastery Chain Menu

Access the menu to manage links and view experience:

  • Type the [MasteryChain command.
  • Double-click a bound Mastery Chain (equipped or in backpack).
  • Right-click your character -> Context Menu -> "Mastery Chain".

Experience and Unlocking Slots

Mastery Chains have 30 Link Slots that must be unlocked sequentially by earning Mastery Chain Experience.

Earning Experience

Mastery Chain XP is earned account-wide through activities that generate gold value, including:

Experience Calculation

Base XP earned is typically: (Gold Value of Source * Player Damage Dealt %)

Multi-Player Experience Adjustment

When multiple players contribute significantly to killing a creature, the experience gain is adjusted upwards for all contributors:

  • For each player dealing 5% or more damage, the "Effective Damage Dealt %" for calculating XP is scaled up by +25% per valid player.
  • This Effective Damage % is capped at 15% for Bosses and 66% for normal creatures.
  • This adjustment only affects XP gain, not [BossResults or [ServerRank stats.

Example: 4 players kill a 1000 gold creature.

  • Player A: 20% dmg | Player B: 30% dmg | Player C: 49% dmg | Player D: 1% dmg
  • 3 players (A, B, C) dealt >= 5% damage. Adjustment = +75% (3 * 25%).
  • Effective % for XP:
    • A: 20% * 1.75 = 35% -> 350 XP
    • B: 30% * 1.75 = 52.5% -> 525 XP
    • C: 49% * 1.75 = 85.75%, capped at 66% -> 660 XP
    • D: 1% * 1.75 = 1.75% -> 17.5 XP

Unlocking Slots

  • As XP thresholds are met, Link Slots unlock automatically.
  • Unlocked slots appear green in the Mastery Chain menu.

Mastery Chain XP Table

Acquiring Mastery Chain Links

Links are rare rewards obtained from:

Link Tiers

Links come in four tiers, offering progressively stronger bonuses:

  • Silver (+25% stronger than Bronze)
  • Gold (+50% stronger than Bronze)
  • Corrupted (+10% stronger than Gold, special restrictions apply)

Link Bonuses

Mastery Chain Links offer a wide variety of PvM bonuses. "Effective" skill bonuses boost the combat effects derived from skills, not the skill value for crafting checks.

Specific Link Notes

  • Damage to Diseased/Bleeding Creatures: New link types added Dec 10, 2024. Diseased links mirror Poisoned links in value.
  • Damage to Poisoned Creatures: Only applies if the target has Greater Poison or higher.
  • Effective Arms Lore Skill: Bonus fixed July 12, 2024.
  • Effective Skill on Chests: Formerly "Effective Lockpicking Skill".
  • Trap Damage: Formerly "Trap and Wand Damage". Bonus no longer applies to wands.
  • Follower Links: Several types exist (Damage Resistance, Attack Speed). Older DR/Healing links could be converted to Attack Speed links via double-click option.

Reforging Links

Players can change the bonus type of an existing link using Reforging Tools.

  • Tool material (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Corrupted) must match the Link's material.
  • Double-click the Reforging Tool, then target the Link (in backpack or installed in chain).
  • Select a new bonus type from the provided list.
  • Reforging Tools are purchasable with reward points or gold from the Prevalia Market.

Managing Links

Mastery Chain Link Tome

A Mastery Chain Link Tome

A container for storing and organizing Mastery Chain Links.

  • Purchasable from the Prevalian Merchant.
  • Supports drag-and-drop and "Add All in Backpack" functionality.

Install All Links Button

  • Located in the Mastery Chain menu.
  • Automatically installs all valid links from the character's backpack, respecting installation costs and limits.

Liftlock

  • Mastery Chains feature a Liftlock mechanic.
  • Shift-click the chain (equipped or in backpack) -> "Enable/Disable Liftlock".
  • When enabled, prevents the chain from being accidentally moved/dropped.

Redline System

The Redline System interacts with Mastery Chains, potentially increasing the maximum number of installable links or enhancing the effectiveness of installed links beyond their normal caps. See the Redline System page for details.

Pawnbroker Recovery

If a bound Mastery Chain decays on a house floor, it can be recovered from the Pawnbroker NPC in Prevalia for a fee within 30 days of decay. Use the "Recover Mastery Chains" button in the Pawnbroker menu to retrieve all chains bound to you into your backpack.
